If you have been reading around looking for ways to start making money online, you may have come across the term “freelancing”. So, what exactly is freelancing, and, more importantly, how can you earn money from it?
Freelancing is basically doing jobs for someone. This covers everything from designing to writing to data entry jobs - it really is that diverse! The great thing about freelancing is that it’s so versatile and can be suited around you. All you really need to get started is an open mind and a PayPal account for people to pay you with!
Content Writing
There are always webmasters out there that need fresh, unique content for their blog or website. Writing for these webmasters is probably the easiest way of making money through freelance work, as all you need is to write down some words and form a unique article. Obviously the higher quality article you form, the more you get paid, but there are webmasters out there willing to pay for very low quality articles, so it’s definitely worth a try.
Forum Posting
Another great way of making money by writing is forum posting. Forum posting is fairly self explanatory - you go and post on someone’s forum. People will pay you to do this as it makes their forum look more active, which will in turn make the forum look more appealing to new members who will sign up and post for free. It will also get them ranked in search engines. Prices for forum posters are generally quite low (around $0.10-$0.20 per post), but it really depends on the webmaster and what sort of posts they are looking for.
Designing
If you have a talent as a designer, this is definitely for you. It could involve designing logos or websites, depending on your talent. If you are a designer, there are loads of ways to get work as there are loads of designing contests around the web as well as lots of jobs that you can get directly from different people. The main thing for designers is to have a good portfolio that will really show off your best work. This will bring in new customers and also lets people see what they’ll be getting from using your services.
Other Services
There are loads of services you can provide, but those are by far the most popular. So, what are these other methods? Well, there are:
- Copy & Paste work, which pays awfully, but is extremely easy as you only have to copy and paste text.
- Data Entry Work, which is similar to copy and pasting in terms of pay, but again is incredibly easy as you’re only inserting some text and maybe numbers.
- Advertising other people’s websites is also a great way of making money. This usually pays quite well, but if you only do things like submitting their sites to directories you probably won’t earn too much.
Any talent you have will be picked up and there will be someone out there willing to pay for your services, so why not give freelancing a go?

When I first started I did content writing, but if I’m honest I found it boring, would much rather be writing for my own sites. I then moved onto designing but stopped doing that to allow more time for blogging

Didn’t know you could design dude. Did you ever get any clients?

Freelancing is a good way to fund your startups.
I’m not too keen on it, I don’t need to spend time on doing something I can outsource. Plus, it’s not automated. More like a regular job.
It’s an awesome post.

Freelancing great because it lets people earn money from the internet w/o the need of knowing internet marketing geeky stuffs… So it’s really a nice way to earn
April 29th, 2009
Yes, earning without geeky stuff haha
Thanks for the comment.
May 2nd, 2009
Well, you do need to know marketing to get your services out there. You can’t just get clients, there is some of that geeky knowledge needed!

I have done a lot of freelance designing in the past, and it brought in some nice money. But it’s just so much work because I did full site designs and I just got sick of it. I finished off my clients, got my cash and started other things that I enjoyed more.
