Interview With Michael Dunlop: Retire At 21 and Income Diary

Today’s post is an interview with Michael Dunlop, one of THE most famous internet celebrities. Read more to know how he started off and how he made a success of himself.

———–

Hello Everyone,

I am 20 years old, dyslexic and dropped out of highschool/sixthform (depending where you live)  just after I turned 18. Since then I have proven to 100,000’s of people I can make a lot of money online working less than 1 hour a day blogging. Today I have been asked to share with you a few of my experiences but I just wanted to make one thing clear, if the only thing you get out of this interview is “Just Do It!” then you have got your money worth. Guys, I really can’t stress to you enough why it is so important to take action right now. I want to share with you a great quote I was told by Ryan Allis, “Have the end in mind and every day make sure your working towards it”. See yourself in 10 years on a beach and now work towards it!

-What made you start Retire at 21 and Income Diary?

Firstly I start Retireat21 because as I am sure you know, us young entrepreneurs don’t have a place to hang out online and network. Basically Retireat21 is the top website for young entrepreneurs making money online to come together.

IncomeDiary came about because I wanted to create a funnel so instead of having a million ways they can go on Retireat21, on IncomeDiary you either reader my content and leave or you read it and then sign up for my eCourse. This system has been so much more profitable than Retireat21.com

The second reason for IncomeDiary.com was because I wanted to write a product and didn’t want to charge for it because the best advice ive been given this year was “Go and create something amazing and then go and give it away for free!” really does work. I was getting dozens of emails a day from people asking me how to make money blogging and how to start their first blog, now I can send them directly to my eCourse where they get their answers and I get a chance to make more money!

-From which source do you earn the most online?

For the last 2 or 3 years I have earned the majority of my income from private advertisers. Recently I decided to test other systems such as new affiliate programs, PPC and email marketing. I have recently written a 7 day eCourse about making money online blogging. If I was to put the eCourse as 7 blog posts It wouldn’t be anywhere near as profitable although I am sure a lot more people would of viewed it.

With mailing lists you get to build relationships and with relationships there is money!

-There are certain methods of earning online that people should stay away from. Which methods would you recommend people to stay away from?

I wouldn’t necessarily tell you not to promote something but what I would recommend is that you research what you are promoting. So often people will promote what pays the best which is their first mistake. Your readers are important to you and if you tell them to buy a product and they buy it and find out its rubbish then who’s going to look like a jackass? You are! So my tip is know what you are promoting!

-Do you think one can earn a full time income with blogging? Are you planning to do so?

This year I will do at least 6 figures online from blogging, point proven?

-What advice do you have for newbie bloggers who want to earn money online?

For a start, follow my eCourse, I am not being big headed, I share some tips the guru’s won’t even tell their paying members.

You can see my eCourse here.

Second thing I would recommend is doing interviews and top lists, it saves you so much time. Think about it, if you want to write a awesome post you will spend 5 or 6 hours on it, Farrad spend 5 minutes sending these questions to me and now he’s got a great blog post. So what I am getting at is save time but getting other people to do your dirty work. The reason I mention top lists is because you can outsource your research with a VA.

Thirdly, so many bloggers try to start more than 1 blog at a time because they see some success with their first blog, this is usually their downfall. Have one blog and make that a success before you move on.

He who begins many things finishes but few - German Proverb

And last but by no means least, JUST DO IT!  Stop saying you will and get to it right now. Last month I launched a new blog and it earned $5,000 in the first month from 10 hours work, anyone can do exactly what I did but you don’t take action!

-Lastly, SEO and Social Media are two completely different fields. But if someone has to concentrate on only one of them which would it be? Which do you think is more important?

Very difficult question, right now I get 20x more traffic to my new blog from Social Media than Search Engines. I think personally you shouldn’t have all your eggs in one basket so have both! If you are not dominating twitter right now, get on it and follow everyone you can, check day 4 of my eCourse to see how I got 30,000 followers.

Thanks for the interview, I hope I gave your readers a taster of what’s to come ;-)

I would like to thank Michael for taking the time to answer all my questions. :)

Michael has been my biggest inspiration for my whole “young entrepreneur” career. If it weren’t for the conversations we have on MSN, or his blogs then I doubt I would be so eager to continue my online “journey” I guess you could call it.

Awesome interview of an awesome guy, great post Farrhad.
